Happy New Year!

Happy 2016!! I love the New Year. I love the motivation and excitement and promises of a fresh start it brings (Sam laughs at my boost of productivity every year, but I feel that even if it only lasts a day it is better than nothing! So far I am going a solid 3 days strong). This year will also be an exciting year for the Blooming to Booming household as in June we will be bringing a new addition home with us! We announced to our family and friends with our Christmas card (thank you Pinterest for adorable ideas…

Happy Halloween!

Hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween! Sam and I stayed home. We answered the door A LOT for all the trick-or-treaters in our neighborhood (we bought over 200 pieces of candy and ran out by 7:00 PM–I think it’s a new record). We ate dinner (Spicy Orange Chicken with Cucumber Couscous Rice Pilaf), watched the end of The Nightmare Before Christmas and the beginning of Hocus Pocus, and then relaxed for the rest of the night. We did not dress up this year, although I did dress up as an angel on Friday for the kids at work. I…

Christmas is Coming!

“Christmas is coming”–a phrase my mother used (and still uses at times) while I was growing up when my siblings or I would mention we wanted or needed something. She literally would start using this phrase on December 26th if need be! Sam (and readers) may not appreciate this post in October, but Christmas is coming sooner than you think, and I, for one, have already started my planning! I’m a huge fan of the House & Holidays Plan over at OrganizedChristmas.com, which helps you to clean your house and plan for a stress free and meaningful holiday actually starting back in…

Buongiorno a Tutti!

We’re back! We’ve been MIA on BloomingtoBooming because Sam and I took a two week trip to Italy! We traveled from Rome to Florence to the Cinque Terre to Venice and finally to Milan with some quick stops to other towns in between. All while living out of our backpacks and walking or taking public transportation everywhere! In short, it was an amazing trip. Beautiful sites, delicious food, and wonderful culture and experiences. Sam and I can’t wait to share our experiences with everyone over the next few weeks (with lots of pictures)!

Jess Lively-Blog and Podcast

I recently came across a new blog (well new to me, but she has had this blog since 2006) and podcast that I’m kind of obsessed with: Jess Lively. I’ve only just started delving into her blog and what she’s all about, but already I find her a super down to Earth woman with a great message about values-based intentions and really appreciating all aspects of life using this approach. I have this weird habit/love of finding blogs that I connect with and then starting from the beginning of their blog and working my way forward. So that’s where I am with…

Geocaching

Sam and I have been trying to find ways to spend time together, be active, and not spend a whole ton of money. We came across the hobby of geocaching and decided to try it out. We had a blast! It was everything we were looking for. We wanted to share our first cache here on our blog, especially for those who are not familiar with it and might be interested in trying it out. So what is Geocaching? In my own words, geocaching is a world-wide scavenger hunt! Sign up for a free account (you can always upgrade to…

Wake-up Light

Let me start off by saying I LOVE waking up early. If I wake up early I am much more productive, I tend to be in a better mood, and I am more likely to have time and motivation to exercise and eat a good breakfast (a big part of trying to be healthier…more on that in another post). However, waking up early is definitely easier said than done. I used to be great at it. College and grad school I would get up at the first rays of sunlight. I couldn’t sleep past 9:00 AM at the latest even if…

Weekend in the Catskills

Recently we decided it was time to get away from reality for a couple of days! Memorial Day was coming up, so we were totally game for taking advantage of the three day weekend. We Googled “best weekend trips from Boston” and researched (okay mostly Jen did the research) our options and decided on the Catskills in New York. This ended up being about a four-hour drive from Boston. We wanted to take advantage of the entire weekend, so we left late after work on Friday and made our way to the Roxbury Inn Motel–our relaxing home away from home…
