The Language of Motherhood

Recently Hunter and I walked down to the small playground in our neighborhood. This was during the week, so Sam was at work and I was on my own. Hunter loves the playground, but he is a bit of a daredevil. At 14 months old, he steps off play structures without noticing, flies down slides, and is constantly on the move. When Sam is there one person can be helping him up while the other person helps him come down, or we can each guard an opening on a play structure, etc (Sam also is the photographer, so these particular…

Labor and Dates

If you’re pregnant or have recently given birth you may have heard about eating dates during the last four weeks of your pregnancy to help with labor. Being in the medical field, I was very interested in this during my pregnancy with Hunter given the research article written by Al-Kuran et. al. published in the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The research showed that women who ate six dates every day for the last four weeks of their pregnancy were more likely to go into labor naturally, with their cervix more dilated, their bags of water intact, and have a…

June Favorites

I can’t believe June is almost over! June is a big month for us with lots of family celebrations. And of course this month marks the beginning of summer–my favorite season(!) and the halfway point of the year. I thought I would celebrate all the June fun and share some of my June Favorites. I have been enjoying the monthly favorites on some of my favorite blogs and podcasts, so I thought I would try my hand at it! Favorite Food September 2015 Sam and I traveled to Italy and I got seriously hooked on Nutella. I also came home…

My Choice to be a Stay-at-Home Mom

After giving birth to Hunter last summer I was home on maternity leave for a few months and did go back to work in the fall. Hunter went to daycare. Hunter was fine at daycare, but I was not fine at work. Sam did the hard job of dropping him off at daycare, but I still struggled emotionally knowing it wasn’t me feeding him, changing him, making him laugh, rocking him to sleep, comforting a cry, or watching him meet and master new milestones (the list goes on…). As a pediatric nurse practitioner, I had a good job. A career.…

Life

Wow! Life has definitely taken over for the past several months! Let’s do a quick recap shall we? Last time we left you I was pregnant with our sweet little boy (who is almost 10 months old now!). I have to say pregnancy agreed with me…up until 39 weeks. My family suffered a devastating tragedy when I was 39 weeks pregnant and my body seemed to only be able to process one thing at a time. So I, like many very pregnant women, was pretty uncomfortable those last few weeks. I eventually was induced when I was 41 + 1…

PacaPod Review

I am almost 37 weeks pregnant and finally considered to be in my 9th month of pregnancy! Pregnancy has actually been pretty good to me, but I do feel like I have been pregnant forever and I am anxiously waiting to meet our baby boy. As the final countdown is on, I am trying to cross off my to-do list in preparation for his arrival. One of those things is packing our hospital bags, including a bag for baby in what will eventually be his diaper bag (I know I’m a little late–I think this is usually recommended closer to…

We are alive!

28 1/2 weeks pregnant and almost a full house remodel later we emerge from the dust (oh so much dust…ugh, construction zones!). This will just be a quick post getting the blogging juices flowing again. We have not forgot about this blog, but we almost literally have not sat down long enough to post. And Sam and I talk about it all the time “I want to blog” “Me too!”. However, I will say it has been/will be worth it. Every single room except for the kitchen has been painted and has or will be getting new floors within the…

Happy New Year!

Happy 2016!! I love the New Year. I love the motivation and excitement and promises of a fresh start it brings (Sam laughs at my boost of productivity every year, but I feel that even if it only lasts a day it is better than nothing! So far I am going a solid 3 days strong). This year will also be an exciting year for the Blooming to Booming household as in June we will be bringing a new addition home with us! We announced to our family and friends with our Christmas card (thank you Pinterest for adorable ideas…

Happy Halloween!

Hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween! Sam and I stayed home. We answered the door A LOT for all the trick-or-treaters in our neighborhood (we bought over 200 pieces of candy and ran out by 7:00 PM–I think it’s a new record). We ate dinner (Spicy Orange Chicken with Cucumber Couscous Rice Pilaf), watched the end of The Nightmare Before Christmas and the beginning of Hocus Pocus, and then relaxed for the rest of the night. We did not dress up this year, although I did dress up as an angel on Friday for the kids at work. I…

Christmas is Coming!

“Christmas is coming”–a phrase my mother used (and still uses at times) while I was growing up when my siblings or I would mention we wanted or needed something. She literally would start using this phrase on December 26th if need be! Sam (and readers) may not appreciate this post in October, but Christmas is coming sooner than you think, and I, for one, have already started my planning! I’m a huge fan of the House & Holidays Plan over at OrganizedChristmas.com, which helps you to clean your house and plan for a stress free and meaningful holiday actually starting back in…
